One of my birthday surprises last weekend was an overnight get away with Andy to Madison, Georgia.
It's just a short drive down the road from Athens, but we felt like we stepped back in time
...a few hundred years since the town dates back to the early 1800's.
We stayed at the most gorgeous antebellum bed & breakfast called Madison Oaks.
The innkeeper's name is Cheryl, and she was so delightful.
We loved hearing her story, and I have to say, she was the quintessential southern hostess.

Madison Oaks has a very private pool area that we enjoyed for a few hours all to ourselves.
It's the first time we've been in a pool all alone without any kids in a loooooong time.
I had forgotten how romantic it is to just swim with my man and relax poolside.
We had dinner that evening at a place called The Icehouse, and y'all, it was better than amazing.
I had pan-seared salmon over a bed of the best cheesy, southern grits you've ever put in your mouth.
I guess I can mention the grilled asparagus that came with it.
Andy had a huge ribeye steak topped with onion straws and a creamy blue cheese dressing.
It came with a side of the cheese grits and a loaded sweet potato.
I won't lie, it should have been called "Heart Attack Waiting to Happen."
But, it was better than delicious.
Maybe we were just really hungry, but I'm gonna go on record saying it was our best meal ever.
I'm so grateful that Andy enjoys beauty hunting with me.
We soaked up as much of the town as we could in our short twenty-four hour get away.
We talked about all the things you can't ever find time to talk about with three kids and a busy life.
Andy wanted to plan out our next 6 summers.
It has hit both of us this year that our kids are growing up fast.
I love that my man takes charge and makes plans for us.
He wants to make sure that we make lasting memories with our kids
in these years that will most likely fly by.
Get aways with Andy are so important..such a wonderful investment in our marriage.
Every single time we go away, we always say we're going to try to do it more often.
Twenty-four hours makes a huge difference!!!
We captured more beauty while we were there, but one post can handle only so many pictures.
Hope you're having a wonderful weekend~
{thankful for}
