The School Bells are Ringing....

I'm so excited for this school year with my kids.
I feel like I have such a better handle on what the year will look like.
My personality tends to lean towards accomplishing the tasks,
so I am going into this year challenging myself like nobody's business to take time for...
long nature walks, bike rides, and built in fun.
I want to be more intentional about taking time to build legos with Luke and Seth.
I want to decorate {and re-decorate} Lydia's dollhouse
and dress her little polly pockets until my fingers bleed!
The thing that inspires me the most about the Classical Approach is...
there are immense amounts of reading that should be done together and this time is so good to
cultivate amazing conversation and learning...these moments are priceless to me.
I'm amazed at how much more my kids are inspired to learn and grow and stretch their minds
when I am sitting with them...willing to learn with them
and not just forcing them to accomplish the tasks at hand.
The very thing that I love the most can sometimes be the hardest.
It's going to take effort and commitment on my part to stay focused on the important things

I was so excited when I saw
Angie from Bring the Rain had given us a chance to spill the beans on what we're going to be learning this year with our kids...
I know that I don't have a ton of readers who homeschool,
so for those of you not so interested in this part of my life...I'll post on my love for decorating asap.

I don't like ordering all of my curriculum from one source.
It's more expensive, and I don't like putting all of my eggs in one basket.
There are way too many books out there that I love teaching from to order from just one single company.
So, with that said...my curriculum is all over the place...a little bit like this blog.

  1. I didn't home school my children but I've always been very interested in it. I really admire parents who are dedicated enough to do it - and enjoy doing it. If my boys were younger again, I certainly would consider it - it was very frustrating dealing with some of the public school issues in my town. It's also interesting how many blogs I read that do home schooling....
Enjoy the rest of your summer!

  3. Yeah for school!!! I've been going through all the curriculum I'll be teaching this year and I'm using a few new ones. I've used some of the ones you listed too, and they're all great! Oh, and on one of your previous posts, I saw that one of your '40 books' is the "Thomas Jefferson Education" - I LOVE that book! My school had all the teachers read it a few summers ago and it was so helpful...I hope you guys have a FANTASTIC school year!

  4. I love your ambitious school list. I'm not nearly that brave yet. I'm still trying to work on being disciplined enough to make them do their schoolwork every day and not get sidetracked.

Your ideas are so inspiring though. I'm a newer follower and I do appreciate you listing your curriculum (as well as your awesome decorating ideas)

  6. Sounds like you are going to have a spectacular school year. I have several friends who homeschool and when I hear about their days it makes me really think hard about it. Don't really think it's for me, but it does sound wonderful.

  7. I am just beginning our homeschool journey. My boys are both in a pre-school, so this is Mommmy's year to get a handle on what will be next year! I love that you listed it all out. I am inspired and encouraged! What do you do with your daughter while teaching the older boys??? I didn't see anything about her education. Wishing you a happy, inspirational, and successful year!

  8. as a homeschool kid myself i swore i'd never do it w/ my own.. now i find myself about to embark on our 7th year! :) which should be interesting w/ one going into 7th, one in 5th, one starting kindergarten, and one just born!! it'll be crazy i'm sure - but then no different like most years past!

and even though there's days i look longingly at that yellow school bus passing our door i know it's worth it. teaching might never be my thing, but my kids are - and what a adventure it's been! :)

blessings to you and your little students.

  9. Sounds like a wonderful plan! A good blog friend of mine talks about "living intentionally" and that goes for our children as well. It's so easy to just get caught up in the everyday hustle and bustle. But our kids need us to lead them and it sounds like that is just what you are doing~!
Curriculum looks great! I'm a "pick and choose" from different sources mom too :)
